THE FIFE YOUNG CARERS TEAM

Management Team

Harvey Carruthers - CEO - Harvey comes to us from veterans’ charity The Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, which is based at Stirling Castle, where he was CEO. He has been a director of many third sector organisations and is currently on the board of Stirling Community Enterprise, which provides employability opportunities for young people, and PLUS Forth Valley, a charity focussed on delivering respite to families of young people with disabilities. Prior to his charity leadership roles, Harvey ran Tay Valley Vets, Perthshire’s largest veterinary practice. 

Jodie Burn - Operations Manager - Jodie previously worked as our Schools Worker for West Fife; raising awareness of young carers issues in schools to ensure both staff and pupils have a greater understanding of the effects of a caring role. Jodie has supported young people and their families for a number of years and is committed to providing person centred care to young carers.

Allison Logan  - Service Manager - Allison has worked with young people for a number of years, most recently working young people in a residential setting. Allison is the Service Manager for the Young Adult Carer team and the Advocacy team. They provide person centred one-to-one support for young adult carers living in Fife. 

Rebecca Mellon - Service Manager - Rebecca is our Service Manager for our Under 18, Family Wellbeing and Resource and Development services. Rebecca joined our team in October 2019, having previously worked with children and young people in a variety of settings, including education and the voluntary sector. She was our West Fife Support Worker before being promoted. 

Regan Ball - Office Manager - Regan is our Office Manager, and joined Fife Young Carers in 2018.  Regan's job is to keep everything running smoothly. Every day is different and sometimes she doesn’t end up doing the things she’s planned to do for the day!  Regan also supports the service as a Sessional Worker; working directly with our Young Carers at Support Groups.

We have a team of Sessional Staff and Volunteers who support the running and delivery of all our services.

Beth Sutherland - Advocacy Worker - Beth joined the team in 2021 and works 1:1 with our Young and Young Adult Carers, giving them and their families a voice and providing information. She also supports the completion of Emergency Plans with our Young Carers  - giving peace of mind to themselves and their families.

Cheryl Dawson - Advocacy Worker - Cheryl has worked with children for many years, in 2009 she was employed as a part time creche worker for children aged 1-3 years. Cheryl went on to study HNC Social Services in 2017, as part of the course she completed work experience with Home-Start then continued as a family support volunteer where she co-facilitated their baby café, family group and perinatal group. In 2018 Cheryl joined Includem where she supported vulnerable young people and their families, providing intensive support to promote positive change. Prior to joining FYC Cheryl worked as a Pupil Support Officer in a secondary school, providing children with a safe space to discuss any issues.

Vacant - Education Worker 

Hannah Blackwood - Education Worker - Hannah joined Fife Young carers after working with children and young people from nursery age, primary and supporting young adults in the community for 8 years. Recently Hannah moved from an additional needs department within a Primary School to gain new skills and to spread awareness to staff and other young people of Young Carers that are within Education. 

Kellie Scott - Education Worker - In Kellie's previous roles she has worked predominantly with ASN children within a primary school for over 7 years in Angus. Kellie is am looking forward to the move to Fife and working with the young people here in the Education role. 

Emma Jo Trotter - Education Worker - Emma Jo has worked with children for over 10 years. Emma Jo has been invloved in setting up and running groups with the Royal Navy as a volunteer. In her previous role Emma Jo worked in education supporting children who have additional support needs as well as providing support to the wider family. Emma Jo joins the team with a passion to support children and young people to be the best they can be.

Shona Hynd - Family Wellbeing Worker - Shona joined FYC in September 2021 having worked in various roles for families and young people including panel member for foster carers, Children panel and protection advisor and a residential childcare worker.  Currently Shona is studying to become a fully qualified therapist.

Michelle Erskine - Family Wellbeing Worker - Previously Michelle has worked in Childcare and is NNEB qualified as a early years educator. From there Michelle has worked in various schools and her last post being a Level 2 Pupil Support Assistant managing day to day support to children and those with behaviour and additional needs, before joining Fife Young Carers in July. Michelle is also studying Counselling and is in her last year.

Shannon McCann - Resource Delivery Worker - With a background in primary education and her own experience as a young carer, Shannon is passionate about promoting the wellbeing of young carers and helping them to reach their potential. Shannon is very excited to join the Fife Young Carers team and is looking forward to working with others to support young carers in Fife.

Emma McHatton - Resource Delivery Worker - Emma previously worked in homelessness services as a support worker and has her own experience being a young carer. Since joining FYC in April 2023, Emma has enjoyed meeting all our incredible young carers and supporting them in their caring role. Emma is passionate about promoting Fife Young Carers so that more people can understand the importance of a young carer and the support that they need.

Angela Brogan - Support Worker - Angela previously worked for Fife Young Carers for a number of years before having a break and returning in late 2023. Angela is one of the team supporting the Under 18's. Angela is the lead worker for the Glenrothes area.

Adelle Walker - Support Worker - Adelle has been a support worker for 10 years. Adelle started volunteering with families with Homestart, then volunteering at Victoria hospice before moving into full-time work support young adults with ASN for 8 years. Adelle has worked within a homelessness service doing support and now is the under 18's Levenmouth support worker. 

Caitlin Honeyman - Support Worker - Before joining Fife Young Carers Caitlin studied Psychology and was a Support Worker for Autistic people.  Caitlin recently joined Fife Young Carers and she is looking forward to using her transferable skills to help young carers to achieve their full potential.

Emily Hearn - Support Worker - Emily joined FYC in December 2021. She brings with her experience in both the education and voluntary sectors in administration, training and befriending. Emily enjoys working with people, especially young people, and in particular those needing support to overcome difficulties and improve life choices. Emily is looking forward to working with young carers and learning what ‘getting it right’ for them might look like.

Gemma Sandilands - Support Worker - Gemma is studying for a BSc Honours in Forensic Psychology with the hopes of creating a positive change with young peoples mental health. Gemma also volunteers at Beath High School Youth Club every Friday night. 

Jen Miller - Support Worker - Previously, Jen worked as a sessional staff member for Fife Young Carers, supporting the delivery of our Group and Respite opportunities. Jen has now expanded her role and come on board with us as a Support Worker for the West Fife area. Jen has always worked with children and young people throughout her career and we are sure these skills will be very beneficial to the young people of the West Fife area. 

Lee Wilson - Support Worker - Lee joined having worked for in care for the last 6 years, working with vulnerable children and adults. Lee has a background in sports coaching and have spent time doing football sessions with adults and children with physical and mental disabilities. Lee is a previous service user with Fife Young Carers for 10+ years, before working as a volunteer and latterly a sessional worker.

Volunteer Coordinator - Jordan Brown - Jordan joined FYC in December 2023. Jordan has previously worked in both web design and employability. For the past 5 years Jordan worked with vulnerable adults to breakdown barriers and find employment. Jordan has now joined FYC as the Volunteer Coordinator and will be running the recruitment, training and managemnet of all volunteers to provide support to our young carers.

Amber Reid - Young Adult Carers Worker - Amber joined us here at FYC in 2016 as our Development Worker which mainly consisted of developing training and information, both for Young People and Professionals across Fife. Amber has recently refreshed and changed roles to our Young Adult Carers Worker, providing a range of support strategies to help our Young Adult Carers flourish and thrive. 

Marc Dixon - Young Adult Carers Worker - Marc joined in January 2022, he previously worked with young adults teaching English and Drama as well as helping to run various drama youth groups. Marc takes pride in helping young adults achieve their full potential in all that they do. Marc spent many years abroad working in different parts of the world with young people from various cultures and different backgrounds. Marc will provide 1-1 support focusing on positive goals whilst providing a safe comfortable space to talk.  

Ross Cafferkey - Young Adult Carers Worker - Ross' background is in sports coaching, which he have an degree in. Ross previously worked with young people from diverse backgrounds using sport to help engage them in a variety of projects. A large part of his previous role was working with people with a disability to provide opportunities for them to participate in sport and attend regular events. Helping to improve their physical and mental health as well as provide social opportunities for them to enjoy.

Chelsea Whitnall - Young Adult Carers Worker - Chelsea has experience working and volunteering in a variety of roles with Children and Young People, she will work with our young carers to support them with school and education. Chelsea will also work with schools and deliver awareness sessions to teachers and pupils to ensure young carers are recognised and supported.
