Change in Age Range
Monday, 12 July 2021
Fife Young Carers have worked with ages 8-25 for a considerable amount of time, however we have had several enquiries about a service for those under 8 in the past year. This alongside the Carers Act that describes a Young Carer as someone under the age of 18 who has a caring responsibility for someone in their family has made us rethink our criteria for referral. To make our decision we did some research into what support might be required for those under 8 and considered the skills our staff team might need to work with younger children, we also considered the pros and cons of changing the ages we work with or remaining static. After careful consideration the decision was made to ask Members to amend the Constitution.
The Board and Members of Fife Young Carers held a Special Members meeting on 28th June and passed an amendment to our Constitution which effectively removed our lower age range. This results in our now working with Young and Young Adult Carers up to the age of 25. We look forward to this new phase in our development.
